Sanskaar Sir of Sr. KG A
SANSKAAR SIR OF SR. KG A
Sanskaar Sinha was supposed to cover Senior KG A for two days.
He had come to the government school in Betul holding a joining letter, to take the place his mother had left behind when she died. Then a teacher didn’t turn up, the principal panicked, and he was standing in front of 40 five-year-olds with an attendance register and no plan at all.
That evening, one of his students went home and announced that her class teacher was very handsome.
“You have to say beautiful, not handsome,” her mother corrected her. “Your teacher is a lady.”
“You know my teacher is a boy.”
Her mother didn’t believe her. She sent the child’s uncle to the school to verify that this male teacher existed at all.
He existed. And Betul had opinions.
“Let him enjoy crayons,” the staff room laughed. His relatives ruled it a menial job. And Amarnath — ex-army, one daughter, no flexibility of any kind — had a shorter phrase for the seven years Sanskaar had spent loving her. “Four days of moonlight.”
Preeti had stopped asking permission. “His name is Sanskaar,” she said, “and his job doesn’t define him in any way.”
Then an allegation was made — the kind no teacher survives — and the only witnesses who could speak for Sanskaar Sir were five years old.
Some teachers are remembered.
Some are never let go.
